Nintendo Wii makes Yahoo.com's top 10 list: Yahoo released it top 10 lists not too long ago for the 2008's top searches. It looks like the Wii game system came up 3rd in "most searched for technology terms" list. As far as home game console's go, the Wi ranked higher then the others did just beating out the Xbox 360. Wii placed third in the Top 10 list, right behind "iPhone" and "Digital Camera." According to Yahoo!, Wii Fit was the 12th most popular overall search term of the year.
"RuneScape is the only video game title to break into Yahoo!'s Top Ten list of most-searched terms for 2008." The Wii seems somewhat unaffected by the economic situation and is not only selling well but still scarce to find," said Michael Gartenberg, vice president of consumer strategy at Jupitermedia. "As consumers are going to be very careful where they put their dollars this year, the idea of a device that has long-term entertainment value and appeal to all members of the family is going to be very attractive. The console, which launched in December 2006, has sold around seven million units in Japan alone. The Nintendo Wii had passed the five million sales mark in the U.S. A total of 5,019,337 units were sold, for an average of 386,000 units sold per month since its launch in December 2006. Video games and hardware were up about 18% from this time last year also. Even with the down market of today the total sales of the nintendo wii reached more then 13 million since released. |
